Sustainability at Postillion Hotels
At Postillion Hotels, we believe that hospitality, comfort, and sustainability go hand in hand. That’s why we are investing in the future of our hotels in Amersfoort Veluwemeer, Deventer, Dordrecht, and Utrecht Bunnik. With smart systems, energy-efficient technologies, and fresh, comfortable spaces, we are making every stay not only more pleasant but also more responsible.
Significant improvement in energy performance
Our sustainability program is achieving impressive results. After optimizing our technical systems and completing tailored improvement plans, our hotels are making major progress in their energy labels:
- Deventer: from B → A+++ (4 labels steps)
- Amersfoort Veluwemeer: from A+ → A++++ (3 label steps)
- Dordrecht: from B → A+++ (4 label steps)
- Utrecht Bunnik: van C → A++++ (6 label steps)
On average, Postillion Hotels is improving by nearly four label levels, a major step towards a more sustainable, future-proof hotel portfolio.
Comfortable and Energy-Efficient
All hotels are being equipped with new VRF heat pump systems, allowing rooms to be individually heated or cooled while eliminating the need for traditional radiators. These systems exchange energy between rooms, resulting in exceptional efficiency.
The air handling systems in public areas, meeting rooms, and event spaces are also being completely renewed, featuring heat recovery and energy-efficient ventilation units.
In addition, roofs are being insulated and fitted with solar panels and solar tubes for preheating tap water. New heat pumps provide heating, cooling, and hot water, significantly reducing both energy consumption and CO₂ emissions.
Sustainable Building Improvements
Alongside technical upgrades, we are also investing in the building envelope:
- Roof insulation: renewed roofs with new insulation layers and white reflective roofing.
- Cavity wall insulation: 9 cm of A+ Foam (Rd 2.57) to minimize heat loss.
- HR++ glazing: installed when replacing window frames.
- Air sealing: verified through blower door tests to ensure optimal airtightness.
Together, these measures create a comfortable indoor climate and significantly reduce energy use.

At Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre Utrecht Bunnik, we are taking sustainability one step further. Here, the rooms are not only technically upgraded but also completely redesigned with a contemporary look and feel.
